Complex Trauma Support
Complex Trauma refers to the experience of multiple and varied traumatic events that are usually interpersonal in nature. Examples are childhood abuse or neglect, bullying, domestic violence, parentification (child taking on adult roles), ongoing medical trauma, human trafficking, torture, genocide, living in a war zone.
Common symptoms are: flashbacks, difficulty regulating emotions, hypervigilance or dissociation and numbness, avoidance, relationship difficulties. Addictions are often a coping mechanism to deal with the symptoms or suppress them.
However, there is always hope for healing through memory reconsolidation, a process which eliminates the problematic sensations, feelings, negative thoughts, and implicit beliefs, replacing them with a joie de vivre.
Both ART and IFS achieve memory reconsolidation.
